A year ago, hundreds of campaigners took part in our ‘Rip-off TV’ action, and persuaded the boss of Buy As You View to listen to his customers. Now we need your help to make sure other high-cost lenders follow suit. Please take part in our simple e-action now!
In April 2010, campaigners emailed and phoned the chief executive of Buy As You View – and persuaded him to listen to the concerns of his low-income customers.
Since then, Church Action on Poverty and Thrive, our local partner in Stockton on Tees, have been working closely with Buy As You View, other lending companies and the Office of Fair Trading. We’re developing a new code and policies that would make these big companies behave more responsibly, and treat their low-income customers more fairly.
Several of the big companies are playing an active role in this process, but we need all the lenders to join in.
BrightHouse – one of the biggest high-cost lenders – are dragging their feet and refusing to attend our next roundtable meeting, in London on 6 May.
We need your help to get them to the table. This whole process was started by campaigners like you. So you have the power to make a difference – to Close the Gap so that people in poverty are treated the same as everyone else!
